Who we are
ADHD Scot is an independent personal project run by one individual based in Scotland. It is not a company, charity, or registered organisation. Throughout the site, "we" and "our" are used in an editorial sense, which is a common convention for solo publications so please bear this in mind when exploring the site.
ADHD Scot was founded after a genuine gap in coverage became impossible to ignore. Our founder (who has chosen to remain anonymous so the site stays as impartial as possible) is a person with ADHD and autism, diagnosed in adulthood, who has experienced first-hand the struggles of navigating assessments as an adult through both NHS and private pathways.
That lived experience matters. It means we understand not just what the process looks like on paper, but what it actually feels like when you are in the middle of it: uncertain, overwhelmed, and trying to make high-stakes, expensive decisions with incomplete information.
All images on the site were taken by our founder, featuring Scotland's beautiful landscapes from Dumfries and Galloway to the Isle of Skye. We hope they make the experience of navigating the site calmer, and knowing we want to support you to make the best informed choices for you.
Why we built this
We believe one of the core problems with neurodevelopmental information in Scotland, is fragmentation. There is a wealth of brilliant information out there, but much of it regarding ADHD and autism in particular, is scattered across forums, TikTok comment sections, Facebook groups, individual clinic websites, and word of mouth. A lot of this information can have English framing and not account for the system differences in Scotland. That fragmentation creates decision fatigue, and overwhelm at exactly the moment people can least afford it.
How do you choose a private provider when the NHS waiting list is years long? What criteria matter? What do the regulations actually say about what a clinic must do? What happens after a diagnosis, and why might your GP refuse to continue prescribing or even take on your care from a private provider? These are all questions we had when navigating the system, and they may sound familiar to you.
ADHD Scot brings those answers together, calmly and clearly, in one place. We are passionate about consistency, transparency, and making the regulatory landscape easy to understand, because those things are what protect you as a patient, wherever you choose to be assessed.
Scotland-only, community-driven
Our provider comparator is built specifically for Scotland. Unlike whole-UK comparison tools, every listing covers services available to people in Scotland, from Caithness to the Borders, in person and online.
We do not accept paid listings or endorsements. Every provider entry is based on publicly available information and, where possible, verified directly. If something changes or we have got something wrong, we want to know. This site is a community resource and is only as good as the information it holds.
